get to know me

A native New Yorker, Alexander lives in NYC with his wife and his dog, Detective Bobson Dandleton. He works as a freelance theater artist, specializing in onstage actor/musician work, music direction, and composing original scores for plays.

Alexander grew up in Syosset, NY on Long Island. He began studying music at age 3, starting with classical violin. From there, he branched out to learn a variety of styles and a variety of instruments. After studying theater and acting in high school and undergrad, he got his Masters in Classical Acting at the Academy for Classical Acting at The Shakespeare Theatre Company through George Washington University.

In addition to being a performer and composer, Alexander is also a Shakespeare scholar. Since graduating from the ACA, he has taught workshops and lectures there on the Dramatic Function of Sound & Music in Shakespeare’s Plays. He has also taught these workshops at UConn, DeSales University, Mary Baldwin University, Shakespeare & Co., and at many other theaters, training programs, and universities around the country. To watch a sample of some material covered in the workshops, check out the video below.

WORKING WITH THE MAGIC FLUKE COMPANY

Alexander is an Affiliate Artist with The Magic Fluke Company, a small family-owned business out of Sheffield, MA that produces USA-made string instruments. Alexander has helped them develop their Cricket Violin, a modern travel acoustic/electric full-size violin based on the design of a Pochette (or pocket violin) used in Europe from the 15th-19th centuries. Alexander has also assisted in the development of their new 5-string Cricket (an acoustic/electric violin & viola hybrid instrument) that gives the player a deeper lower register.

Often in Alexander’s projects, he can be spotted with one or more of their instruments in his hands (Cricket Violin, 5-string Cricket Violin/Viola, Timber Bass, Flea Mandolin, Firefly Banjo Ukulele).
